Working as an Intimacy Professioal
Within the past five years, I have noticed a shift in the culture of theatre. There has been a focus on ensuring the emotional safety of actors by bringing in intimacy experts to assist with creating intimate and hyper-exposed scenes. Intimacy direction is vital to creating a safe space for actors to explore their characters. It ensures that all actors involved in intimate or hyper-exposed scenes feel comfortable and respected and that the scenes are staged artistically and ethically sound.
As an intimacy director, I work closely with actors and the creative team to create a safe and supportive environment for exploring intimacy on stage. I develop strategies for staging intimate scenes, ensuring that actors are comfortable with the level of physical contact and that the scenes are choreographed in a safe and believable way. I help them to understand the characters' motivations and to find ways to express those emotions safely and authentically.
Intimacy direction is essential to creating powerful and respectful theatre. It allows actors to explore their characters' intimate and complex relationships in a safe and controlled environment, and it helps to create believable and emotionally resonant scenes.
